Abstract

In recent years, I have focused on mapping forest disturbances using optical satellite imagery. To visualize this data in an engaging and efficient way, we utilized web maps powered by MapLibre GL JS. For optimal performance, the vector data - derived from Sentinel-2 imagery for Lower Saxony, Germany - was converted to PMTiles and hosted in a GitHub repository as static vector tiles. This approach ensures efficient data loading and seamless user interaction with serverless and zero-maintenance backend, highlighting the potential of modern web-mapping technologies for environmental data visualization.
